Karnataka Yellow Alert Issued: IMD Predicts Heavy Rain, Hailstorm Bengaluru And Other Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall with hailstorms in more than 25 districts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, over the next few days. A yellow alert has been issued for several regions as thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h are expected.

Districts Under Yellow Alert

IMD has placed the following districts under a yellow alert: Vijayanagar, Tumkur, Shivamogga, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Mandya, Kolar, Kodagu, Hassan, Davangere, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban, Vijayapura, Haveri, Gadag, Dharwad, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi.

Weather Forecast for the Next Few Days

In the latest bulletin on March 31, IMD said,''cloudy skies with thunderstorms and strong winds (40-50 km/h) expected from April 1-3; hailstorms likely in Coastal and North Interior Karnataka on April 2-3; widespread rain forecast for April 4.''

April 1-3:

Cloudy conditions will prevail across the state, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching 40-50 km/h. Scattered moderate rain is expected in North Interior Karnataka, while South Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru and coastal districts are likely to witness widespread moderate rainfall, with some areas receiving heavy showers.

April 2-3:

IMD has issued a hailstorm warning for Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka. Isolated hailstorms are also expected in South Interior Karnataka on April 3.

April 4:

Most parts of the state are likely to receive rainfall.

Dry Weather in Some Districts

While heavy rainfall is expected in several regions, Bidar, Koppal, Raichur, and Yadgir districts will continue to experience dry weather, with only moderate rainfall. Rain has already been recorded in Dharwad and Koppal.

Temperature Extremes

Kalaburagi recorded the highest maximum temperature at 40.6°C.

Chamarajanagar recorded the lowest temperature at 15.4°C.

Cyclone Formation Over Odisha Coast

The sudden change in weather conditions is attributed to a depression over the Odisha coast, which may intensify into a cyclone. As a result:

  • Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, and Chikkamagaluru are likely to receive moderate rainfall on April 1.
  • Thunderstorms are expected on April 3.
  • Widespread rainfall is predicted across Karnataka on April 4.

Residents are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions, especially in districts under the yellow alert.
