Karnataka Yellow Alert Issued: Bengaluru Soaked Again as IMD Warns of Heavy Rain in 20+ Districts Till July 25
Bengaluru, the Silicon City, was battered by another round of intense rainfall on Monday, with heavy showers reported in several parts of the city since afternoon. The relentless downpour caused traffic congestion on key roads, leaving many commuters frustrated. Areas such as Hebbal, Bagaluru, Bellandur, R.T. Nagar, and R.R. Nagar witnessed significant rainfall. Waterlogging in several low-lying areas led to slow-moving traffic and vehicle breakdowns.

Traffic flow was severely affected at Madivala Ayyappa Underpass, Ruby 2 Junction, Veeranna Palya Railway Gate, KEB Junction, Kothanur Main Road, AMC Junction, and near the Hebbal upper ramp due to water accumulation. In addition, a fallen tree near Radhakrishna Theatre caused major delays for vehicles heading towards R.T. Nagar.
IMD issues Yellow alert
In response to the ongoing weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for various regions across Karnataka. The alert warns of heavy rainfall and strong winds over the next few days, urging residents to take precautions and stay indoors during intense spells.
Coastal Karnataka districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by sustained wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. The IMD has warned that these areas may experience isolated heavy showers, and residents should remain alert to avoid disruptions.
In North Interior Karnataka, several districts such as Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir are expected to see light to moderate rainfall. Wind speeds in these areas could reach 40 to 50 kmph, contributing to power disruptions and transport delays in some places.
South Interior Karnataka is also under watch, especially in Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Hassan, and Kodagu, where heavy rainfall with strong winds is likely to occur in isolated locations. The rest of the region, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ballari, Chamarajanagara, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, and Vijayanagara, is expected to receive light to moderate showers accompanied by winds blowing at 40 to 50 kmph.
Bengaluru weather forecast
In Bengaluru, the forecast for the next 48 hours includes generally cloudy skies and light to moderate rainfall. Surface winds may remain strong, with speeds reaching up to 50 kmph. The city is likely to experience intermittent rain, which could disrupt travel and outdoor activity.
A yellow alert has been issued for most of Karnataka until July 24, with widespread rainfall expected to continue.
On July 25, an orange alert has been issued for the districts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu, where very heavy rainfall is likely. The rest of the state will continue to remain under yellow alert, suggesting ongoing rain activity across regions.
Authorities have advised people to remain cautious during this period. The public is urged to avoid flood-prone areas, secure outdoor belongings, and follow updates from IMD and local disaster management officials. As monsoon activity intensifies across Karnataka, citizens are encouraged to stay safe and prepared for more rain in the coming days.
