Karnataka Weather Update: Cold Wave To Persist In THESE Districts For Next 4 Days, Temperatures Drop Expected

In Dakshina Kannada, the slow shift in weather patterns is becoming evident as cooler mornings give way to warmer afternoons, setting the stage not just for a change in climate but also for an increase in health-related issues. The Indian Meteorological Department had forecasted that this year the cold would be more pronounced compared to recent years, marking a significant departure from the norm. This prediction holds especially true as winter, which typically spans December and January, sets in, bringing with it a host of viral diseases.

The Health Department has been proactive in spreading awareness and information about taking extra precautions during this time. Despite these efforts, there's been a noticeable uptick in illnesses such as colds, fevers, coughs, and asthma. This has led to more people seeking medical advice and treatment. The situation is further complicated by the weather's impact on the southern interior, coastal, and Malnad regions. The shifting winds from North India and those blowing from the Bay of Bengal are expected to mix, leading to days that are both sunny and cloudy. This weather pattern might slightly ease the cold but also brings the possibility of light rain around January 13, potentially affecting the cold's intensity depending on the air's moisture content.

Mangaluru city has already felt the chill with morning temperatures dropping to around 20-21 degrees Celsius, and rural areas experiencing an additional decrease of 1-2 degrees Celsius. The cold is particularly palpable until 8-9 am in these locales. The Meteorological Department has cautioned about cold winds in the Uttara Kannada district and both the North and South Interior regions, predicting a dip in the minimum temperature by 2-4 degrees Celsius more than usual.

The onset of colder weather coincides with exam season in many schools and colleges, posing a dual challenge for students and parents. With the health of children being paramount, parents are faced with the tough decision of sending their kids to school to avoid missing exams despite the risk of fever, which can easily spread among students. To mitigate this, the Health Department has advised the Education Department to be vigilant about students' health during this period.

Northern Karnataka to See Below-Normal Temperatures

A cold wave continues to affect Karnataka, with the Meteorological Department predicting severe cold for the next four days across most northern interior districts. In Uttara Kannada, the minimum temperature is expected to be 4°C above normal, while Bidar, Gulbarga, and Gadag districts may see temperatures drop below 10°C. Raichur and Gadag will be 3-5°C below normal, and dense fog is anticipated in some areas of the north interior.

Chikkamagaluru, Mandya, and Chikkaballapur are likely to experience temperatures 2-4°C below normal. Davangere recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 11.5°C. Bengaluru saw maximum temperatures of 27.1°C at HAL and 28°C in the city, with minimum temperatures of 15.2°C and 16.4°C, respectively. Other locations like Karwar, Shirali, and Panambur reported maximum temperatures ranging from 29.8°C to 34.6°C, with minimums between 15.8°C and 21.7°C. Bidar, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, and other districts also recorded maximum temperatures of 28.6°C to 32.2°C, with minimums ranging from 12.5°C to 16.4°C.
