In the past 48 hours, intense rains have lashed Udupi-Mangaluru districts and parts of Kodagu district. Weather enthusiasts are hopeful that the rainfall will extend to Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga districts as well.

The IMD has issued a red alert for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts of Karnataka. In response, the district administration has warned fishermen against venturing into the sea.

The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rain along with winds of 30-40 km/h in coastal Karnataka on Thursday. The weather office said rainfall will continue in the coastal districts from June 28 to June 30.

Deputy Commissioner Mulai Mugilan has declared a holiday for all primary, high schools, and anganwadis across Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday, June 27. This decision follows a red alert issued by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for coastal Karnataka until 8:30 am on Thursday. However, no holiday for schools and colleges has been declared in Udupi district so far.

The IMD has forecasted isolated heavy to very heavy rain and sustained wind speeds of 30-40 km/h over coastal Karnataka on Thursday, with similar conditions expected to persist from June 28 to June 30.

Meanwhile, heavy monsoon rains intensified across the coastal region on Wednesday, causing widespread damage and disrupting commuters. Udupi and surrounding rural areas experienced copious rainfall throughout the day, resulting in artificial flooding in many areas and making roads impassable for vehicles and pedestrians. Urban areas including Udupi city, Manipal, Brahmavar, and Malpe reported heavy downpours.

Residents are advised to exercise caution as the weather situation may lead to slippery roads, landslides, and falling trees. Fishermen have been strongly advised against venturing into the sea, and locals and tourists are urged to avoid coastal areas due to safety concerns.

In case of emergencies, the public can seek assistance from the control room of the DK DC Office at 1077 or by calling 0824-2442590.

Notable rainfall totals in the region include 188 mm in Manchi (Bantwal taluk), 154.5 mm in Ira, and significant amounts in other areas, underscoring the severity of the ongoing weather conditions.
