Karnataka Weather Alert: Is Bengaluru About To Get A Long-Awaited Spell of Rain?

Recent showers in Bengaluru have brought much-needed relief to residents from the scorching heat that has persisted over the last few months. The city is expected to receive further rainfall, with the wet weather forecasted to continue until May 19, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Accordinh to latest report, a thunderstorm has been reported near Kempegowda International Airport, Devanahalli. Observers are watching closely to see if this thunderstorm will intensify and move into North Bengaluru.

Bengaluru rains today

Vijay, a well-known weather enthusiast recognised for his popular page 'Namma Karnataka Weather,' initiated a discussion about the rain. He wrote,''The thunderstorms to the east of Bengaluru appear to be shifting southward instead of moving eastward.''

Heavy To very Heavy Rain and Hail reported near Electronic City, Bommasandra, Chandapura and surroundings in Anekal.

The rain has been a welcome respite for Bengaluru, which has been experiencing high temperatures and dry weather. The recent showers are expected to help alleviate the heat stress and improve the city's air quality.

Weather experts, including popular blogger Bengaluru Weatherman, predict scattered showers with isolated heavy thunderstorms over South Interior Karnataka districts, including Mysuru and Bengaluru.

However, North Interior Karnataka, Ballari, Chitradurga, and Davanagere districts may experience extreme hot weather conditions. The IMD has recommended that the public take precautions to protect themselves from the severe heat waves. These precautions include avoiding direct sunlight exposure between 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m., staying hydrated by drinking water frequently, and wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose, and breathable cotton clothing.

Bengaluru rains forecast

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued yellow alert for Heatwave - Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkaballapura & Kolar districts has been given Yellow Alert by IMD as on 06.05.2024 at 1300hrs valid till 08:30 AM of 07.05.2024.

Yellow alert for Thunder Strom has also been issued- Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagara, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara & Tumkuru districts has been given Yellow Alert by IMD as on 06.05.2024 at 1300hrs valid till 08:30 AM of 07.05.2024.

IMD's forecast for May 6 predicts a minimum temperature of 24.0 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 38.0 degrees Celsius in Bengaluru, with a generally cloudy sky and light rain expected. On May 7, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

The rain has brought relief to Bengaluru residents, but caution is advised as heavy rainfall can lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas. Residents are urged to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during the rainy season.
