Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru Under Rain Watch As IMD Predicts Thunderstorms, Heavy Rains Till May 15
Karnataka Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru from May 12 to May 15, 2025, due to predicted severe weather conditions. These regions are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and heavy rainfall, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h, and potentially gusting up to 50 km/h.

According to the latest IMD bulletin released on May 12, the weather system will bring intense thunderstorms and lightning to the affected areas. The IMD forecasts that these weather conditions will persist for the next several days, with heavy rain expected to continue through May 14 and May 15.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), widespread showers with scattered thunder and lightning are likely in these areas in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru Weather Forecast (May 12-15, 2025)
In Bengaluru, the weather will remain partly cloudy with light to moderate rain or thundershowers expected each day from May 12 to May 15. Gusty winds, ranging from 30 to 40 km/h, will accompany these showers, and there may be sudden changes in weather, particularly during the late afternoon and evening hours. Residents of Bengaluru should stay vigilant and be prepared for sudden weather shifts.
Monsoon Update:
In addition to the regional weather warnings, the Southwest Monsoon is expected to advance into the South Andaman Sea and parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal by May 13, 2025. It is also likely to progress into some areas of the south Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin area, and central Bay of Bengal over the subsequent 4-5 days. This marks the beginning of the monsoon season in these regions, which may contribute to the ongoing stormy conditions.
Other Areas Affected:
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Interior Karnataka will also experience isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds during the same period.
Lakshadweep is also expected to experience lightning on May 12, and Coastal Karnataka may experience thunderstorm activity until May 15.
