Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru Set For Rainy Week, Showers Expected Each Day This Week

Bengaluru residents are enduring an unusually hot October, with temperatures soaring between 32-34°C, far higher than expected for this time of year. Known for its mild climate, the city's current heatwave has left many questioning the shift in weather patterns.

Karnataka Weather Alert Bengaluru Set For Rainy Week Showers Expected Each Day This Week

One Bengaluru resident took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their discomfort, saying, "The last two days have felt unusually hot in Bengaluru, almost like a second summer."

Despite being in the post-monsoon season, temperatures across Karnataka have been on the rise. Meteorologists attribute the heat to a mix of factors including insufficient rainfall, prolonged dry spells, and clear skies, which have allowed the sun's heat to accumulate, according to a report by the *New Indian Express*.

C.S. Patil, head of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), noted that while the heat is uncomfortable, it's neither unexpected nor unusual. Similar conditions were observed last year around this time.

In 2023, Karnataka faced a severe drought, contributing to higher temperatures across the state. However, this year, the situation is different. Karnataka recorded 11% excess rainfall, receiving 926.8 mm of rain compared to the average 831.8 mm, according to IMD data.

Adding to the discomfort, minimum temperatures in Bengaluru have also risen. The city recorded a low of 22°C on Tuesday, 1.8°C above the usual October minimum of 20.2°C.

Bengaluru Weather Forecast:

Relief is on the way for Bengaluru, as meteorologists predict that thunderstorms, tied to the monsoon withdrawal, will bring cooler weather starting tonight. Popular weather blogger @Bnglrweatherman shared on X that moderate to heavy thunderstorms are expected in the city over the next 10 days, offering some respite from the oppressive heat.

Bengaluru experienced a notably dry September 2024, recording just 23.4mm of rainfall, the lowest in over two decades, compared to the usual 212.8mm.

In contrast, October is typically the second rainiest month, with 168.3mm, though last year saw only 96mm. This week, light to moderate rains are expected, with some heavy spells between October 4th and 7th, possibly totaling 60mm. Cyclonic circulations in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, along with troughs, are contributing to this wet spell, which will bring cooler temperatures, particularly during evenings and nights.
