Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru, 25 Other Districts To See Heavy Rains as Monsoon Advances
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh rain alerts for several districts in Karnataka as pre-monsoon activity intensifies and the southwest monsoon begins advancing into the Indian mainland.

Orange Alert for May 16
An orange alert has been issued for May 16 in the following districts:
Bidar, Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), Vijayapura (Bijapur), Yadgir, Belagavi (Belgaum), Gadag, Dharwad, Koppal, Bagalkote, Haveri, Chitradurga, and Chikkamagaluru.
These regions are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, urging residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
Yellow Alert Issued
A yellow alert is in place for the districts of Ballari (Bellary), Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga (Shimoga), Davangere, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Tumakuru, Kolar, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Ramanagara, Mandya, and Chikkaballapur.
These areas can expect light to moderate rain and gusty winds over the next 24-48 hours.
Weather blogger Vijay, who runs the X handle "Namma Karnataka Weather," noted that the state is heading towards the end of the pre-monsoon thunderstorm season, which is now in full swing with widespread rains.
Cyclonic Systems Fuel Rainfall Activity
According to the IMD, two upper-air cyclonic circulations are influencing the state's weather:
One is located over North Interior Karnataka and its neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Another lies over North Coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal, also at 1.5 km above sea level.
These systems are expected to trigger widespread rain and thunderstorm activity across parts of Karnataka, especially in the coming days.
Southwest Monsoon Progress
The Southwest Monsoon has advanced further into:
Parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, Maldives & Comorin area
Parts of the South Bay of Bengal, Andaman Islands, and Andaman Sea
IMD forecasts further advancement of the monsoon into additional parts of the Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin area, and Central Bay of Bengal over the next 3-4 days.
Bengaluru Weather Forecast
Bengaluru is expected to witness generally cloudy skies with moderate rainfall and thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. This weather pattern is likely to continue over the next couple of days, offering relief from the recent heat but also posing risks of waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
