Karnataka Senior IAS Officer Mahantesh Bilagi Dies in Car Accident Near Jewargi, Kalaburagi

Senior IAS officer Mahantesh Bilagi lost his life in a tragic car accident while traveling with family members from Vijayapura to Kalaburagi for a wedding. Two of his brothers, Shankar Bilagi and Eranna Shirasangi, were also killed in the crash.

Accident Occurred While Trying to Avoid a Dog

According to preliminary information, the vehicle overturned near Gounalli Cross in Jewargi taluk after the driver attempted to steer away from a dog that suddenly appeared on the road. The Innova with registration number KA 04 NC 7982 lost control, leading to the fatal accident.

Brothers Died on the Spot, Bilagi Passed Away in Hospital

Shankar Bilagi and Eranna Shirasangi were declared dead at the scene. IAS officer Mahantesh Bilagi was taken to a private hospital in Kalaburagi, but doctors could not save him. The moment news of his passing spread, senior officials including IGP Shantanu Sinha and the Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner arrived at the hospital.

A Distinguished Officer with Significant Roles in Karnataka

Mahantesh Bilagi was born on March 27, 1974 and belonged to the 2012 batch of the Karnataka cadre. At the time of his death, he was serving as the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Minerals Corporation. His earlier roles included serving as Managing Director of BESCOM. He had also worked in districts such as Davangere and Udupi, contributing significantly in each posting.
