Karnataka School Holidays: Orange Weather Alert Prompts Closure of Schools in Dakshina Kannada On June 16
Karnataka School Holidays: Following the Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy rainfall and strong winds in parts of coastal Karnataka, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in several taluks on Monday, June 16, 2025.

Areas Where Schools Will Remain Closed:
Mangaluru
Bantwal
Uppinangady
Moodbidri
Puttur
All anganwadis, primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges in these taluks will stay shut as a safety measure.
Why the School Holidays Were Declared
According to officials, school holidays were necessary due to the high risk of flooding, waterlogging, and landslides in the region. Strong winds may also affect infrastructure and transportation, making it unsafe for children to attend school.
Safety Guidelines Issued:
The district administration has also issued the following precautionary instructions for residents and visitors:
- Residents in low-lying areas and near rivers or coastlines are advised to shift to safer locations if needed.
- Tourists are strongly discouraged from visiting beaches and sea-facing areas during this period.
- Officials in flood-prone and landslide-sensitive zones have been directed to remain on high alert.
- Local officials and PDOs (Panchayat Development Officers) designated as Incident Commanders must respond swiftly to public grievances and stay connected with the district control room.
- The public is strictly warned against venturing near rivers, streams, or the sea.
Emergency Ready Mode Activated:
All relevant departments and taluk-level authorities have been placed on emergency standby with resources to handle any situation arising from the adverse weather.
With the southwest monsoon intensifying, the public is urged to follow official updates and avoid unnecessary travel or outdoor activities, especially in coastal Dakshina Kannada. For emergency assistance, contact the district control room.
