Karnataka Rains: Is There A Holiday For Schools On Tuesday, December 3?
Amid the ongoing relentless rainfall in the region, several districts in Karnataka have decided to close schools and colleges for the day to ensure the safety of students. However, despite growing demands from parents in Bengaluru, the district collector has not yet announced any holiday for schools or colleges in the city on Tuesday, December 3.
5 Districts announced School holiday

However, it must be noted that the five districts of Karnataka- Mandya, Muru, Kolar, Chamarajanagar, and Chikkaballapur have already declared a holiday for all schools and colleges due to the continuous downpour, which has raised safety concerns and disrupted daily routines. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecasted more heavy rainfall, prompting district authorities in these regions to take precautionary measures for student safety.
''Due to the ongoing heavy rainfall in Mandya District and the IMD's forecast of more torrential rain for today (December 2nd), a holiday has been announced for all schools and colleges up to PU level to prioritize the safety of children and students. To make up for today's closure, classes will be held all day on an upcoming Saturday," said Dr. Kumara, the District Collector of Mandya.
The decision to declare holidays in the aforementioned districts has been welcomed by parents and school authorities, as the heavy rain has caused disruptions to transportation and posed risks for students commuting to schools.
However, in Bengaluru, many parents have expressed concern over the lack of a similar announcement, especially as the rain continues to intensify. The authorities in Bengaluru, including the District Collector's office, have remained firm on their stance, opting not to announce a holiday for schools and colleges. Despite calls for a break from parents, the city's education officials have emphasized the importance of maintaining regular school schedules unless the weather conditions worsen further.
"We are closely monitoring the situation. If the weather conditions change and further risks are posed to student safety, we will take appropriate action," said an official from the District Collector's office.
Parents have been voicing their concerns on social media, demanding a holiday, as they fear for their children's safety while commuting in the heavy rain. Some have argued that the delay in announcing a holiday puts children at unnecessary risk, especially with the continuous rainfall predicted by the IMD.
Despite this growing demand for a holiday, educational institutions in Bengaluru remain open as usual. The authorities have assured that they will review the situation regularly and make a decision if necessary, based on the evolving weather conditions.
