Karnataka Portfolio Twitter Handle Faces Backlash for Allegedly Tarnishing Bengaluru’s Image
A tweet by the social media profile Karnataka Portfolio highlighting alleged rising street crimes in Bengaluru has gone viral but was later deleted following widespread criticism. The post described recent incidents in BTM Layout where two youths allegedly committed multiple thefts in broad daylight, including stealing utensils from a tea vendor and robbing a Zomato delivery executive's bag, with CCTV footage reportedly capturing the acts.

The tweet now deleted had allegedly criticised the state of law and order in Bengaluru, prompting calls from some social media users and local activists to file an official complaint against the profile at Madivala police station.
In response, Madivala police issued a statement condemning what they described as a narrative that "negatively implies that law and order in Bengaluru city have completely deteriorated," calling such claims unacceptable. The police confirmed they will visit the incident site, investigate the matter thoroughly, and take appropriate action.
Meanwhile, a tweet that is circulating online urged others to help identify the person behind the account, emphasizing the need to protect Karnataka's image.
Some social media users have alleged that the profile is tagging the Bengaluru City Police handle in posts that are often not even relevant.
Others claimed the account is run by an outsider trying to stir unrest by sharing exaggerated or misleading posts. Many demanded the account be suspended and its admin arrested, while praising the Karnataka Police for finally responding to what they describe as a year-long pattern of "propaganda." It was also noted that some tweets were deleted after being exposed for posting misleading information and violating the privacy of individuals.
Some users have further alleged that the person behind this content is simply using ChatGPT prompts to generate posts, raising questions about the authenticity and intent behind the information being shared.
The deletion of the tweet appears to be an attempt to de-escalate tensions, but the issue has sparked a wider debate on social media about crime, policing, and Bengaluru's image.
