Karnataka local body polls: Local leaders to take call on alliance with JDS

Bengaluru, Aug 3: A day the Election Commission announced dates, the Congress party left the option to form alliance with Janata Dal (Secular) to local leaders in the upcoming local body elections.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) decided to leave it to local leaders to decide on tie-up with JD(S) in local body election. The KPCC asked the local Congress leaders to have tie-up with secular forces.

Janata Dal Secular (JDS), which is in allaiance with the Congress, yet to break silence over the matter.

The State Election Commission has announced election date for 105 local bodies. The voting will take place in two phases. The Election Commission will issue the notification on August 11. Twenty-nine Nagarasabhas, 53 Purasabhas and 23 Town Panchayats will go to polls. For the first time EVMs will be used in the voting.

The last date for filing of the nomination is August 17. Voting will be held on August 29. Counting of votes will be held on September 1.
