Karnataka: Kashmir MBBS Student Levels Ragging Allegations On Senior; Student Association Demands Probe

A shocking incident of ragging has been reported from Karnataka's Al-Ameen Medical College in Vijayapura According to the reports, some seniors misbehaved with a second-year MBBS student named Hameem, from Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. Hameed alleged that college seniors made him sing and dance forcefully.

The incident reportedly happened during a college cricket match between the 2019 and 2022 batch students on Tuesday evening.

Ragging With Kashmir MBBS Student

Reports said Hameem was instructed by a senior to remain outside the boundary line. He complied without objection, observing from afar. However, tensions escalated when seniors confronted him, questioning his presence and demanded him to leave. Hameem stood his ground.

The situation worsened when some seniors allegedly forced Hameem to sing and dance for their entertainment.

The victim alleged that the senior also tried to coerce him into a car. When he tried to record the incident on his phone, their aggression intensified. Later that night, a group of six to eight individuals barged into his hostel room.

In the hostel room, they assaulted Hameem and compelled him to record an apology video under duress. "You have four more years here. We are locals-imagine how terrible we can make your life," they threatened him. They also warned him against playing cricket for the rest of his college tenure.

Condemnation from the Student Association

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, condemned this attack in a statement. He described it as a "deeply disturbing" case of ragging and violence. In a social media post, he urged Karnataka's Chief Minister to intervene personally.

"We urge the Karnataka Chief Minister to personally intervene in this matter, ensure swift justice for the victim, and take strict action against those responsible to prevent such incidents from recurring in educational institutions," Khuehami stated.
