Karnataka Highway Projects Worth ₹2,041 Cr to Boost Real Estate, Tourism & Trade
The government is making a major push in Karnataka's highway infrastructure, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari launching development projects worth ₹2,041 crore. These initiatives aim to enhance transportation efficiency, support economic growth, boost tourism, and improve rural-urban connectivity across the state.
Real Estate Boom Expected Along Key Highways
With the launch of new expressways and roads, real estate near major highways is expected to see a dramatic rise in value. Farmers owning land along these corridors could benefit financially, as demand for land near developed routes grows. The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has already caused a surge in property prices. Similarly, the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is projected to deliver comparable gains.

Major Highway Projects Across Karnataka
The newly announced projects cover 88 kilometers and span key districts such as:
Shivamogga
Kalaburagi
Raichur
Bidar
Coastal Karnataka
Highlights include the construction of road overbridges and river bridges (e.g., over Shahabad and Kagina rivers on NH-50), improving freight and passenger movement in North Karnataka.
The Bidar-Humnabad widening project on NH-367 will strengthen industrial transport links between Bidar and Kalaburagi, making regional trade more seamless.
Religious Tourism and Local Business to Benefit
The highway upgrades will improve access to popular religious sites like:
Kollur Mookambika Temple
Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple
This is expected to boost religious tourism, benefiting hotels, transport operators, and small businesses in surrounding areas.
Additionally, enhanced road links between Malenadu, coastal Karnataka, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Bengaluru, and Mysuru will encourage balanced development across the state, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns.
Infrastructure Aligned with PM Gati Shakti Vision
These highway projects are part of the PM Gati Shakti initiative, supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's $5 trillion economy vision. The central government's strong focus on South India's infrastructure, especially Karnataka, is evident through this massive investment.
Among the key inaugurations:
A 2.44-km cable-stayed bridge connecting Ambaragodlu and Kalasavalli villages in Shivamogga's Sagara taluk, built at a cost of ₹473 crore
The Sharavati Bridge, improving Malenadu-coastal Karnataka connectivity
Restoration of Shiradi Ghat (NH-75) for safe monsoon travel along the Mangaluru-Bengaluru corridor
Farmers and Property Owners to Gain Big
The proximity to highways is expected to significantly boost property values, turning some farmers into millionaires. The improved road access will also reduce travel time and logistics costs, enhancing trade and agricultural supply chains.
With the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway already showing economic benefits, the ongoing projects are likely to replicate that success statewide, helping both urban and rural communities thrive.
