Karnataka Govt Allocates ₹400 Crore To Upgrade Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road; Major Infra Boost Announced
The Karnataka government has turned its attention to enhancing infrastructure along Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road (ORR), a vital corridor for multinational companies (MNCs) and start-ups.
In response to the frequent civic and infrastructure challenges faced in the area, the state has allocated ₹400 crore to upgrade the 22.7-kilometre stretch.

Dr Harish Kumar K, Special Commissioner (Finance), stated that the project aims to transform ORR into a world-class route, in collaboration with the Government of Karnataka and the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.
As reported by Deccan Herald, the initiative is part of a wider package of development projects outlined in the state budget.
With a strong focus on pedestrian safety, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has pledged to build 1,000 kilometres of footpaths.
These pathways will be incorporated into current arterial and sub-arterial road schemes and made a standard feature of all future road works.
The budget also reaffirmed backing for two major ongoing infrastructure initiatives.
The first involves white-topping 157 kilometres of roads, with an estimated cost of ₹1,700 crore. The second covers the asphalting of 118 roads, budgeted at ₹694 crore.
In a move to further strengthen civic infrastructure, the BBMP has allocated ₹2.5 crore per ward for capital works and ₹50 lakh per ward for maintenance-totalling ₹675 crore across 225 wards.
Moreover, the civic authority has announced new railway infrastructure plans, including a railway over-bridge at 1st Main Road in Kengeri and an underpass near Ramohalli Gate, with a ₹20 crore allocation.
Although the city still has over two dozen manned railway crossings, efforts to systematically eliminate them through overpasses have been limited.
The latest budget marks a step forward in addressing this long-standing shortfall in infrastructure development.
