Karnataka Government Announces Public And Optional Holidays For 2025
The Government of Karnataka has taken a step to announce the calendar for public and optional holidays for the year 2025. This decision, made during a recent cabinet meeting, is set to delight not just government workers but also the general public. It allows them to plan vacations and events well in advance, with a total of 19 public holidays and 20 optional ones laid out for the year. These dates include many of India’s major festivals and national celebrations, ensuring ample opportunity for rest and festivities.
Among the public holidays, notable dates include January 14 for Uttarayana Punyakala and Makar Sankranti, February 26 for Maha Shivaratri, and March 31 for Khutub-e-Ranjan. The list continues with significant days such as Mahavir Jayanti on April 10, B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, and Good Friday on April 18. The middle of the year sees holidays like Labour Day on May 1 and Bakrid on June 7, leading up to Independence Day on August 15. The festive season of October is especially busy with Mahanavami, Ayudha Puja, and Vijayadashami all on October 1, Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, and Diwali celebrations from October 20 to 22. The year rounds off with Karnataka Rajyotsava on November 1 and Christmas on December 25.

For those who prefer lesser-known festivals or have specific cultural observances, the list of optional holidays caters to a wider audience. Starting with New Year on January 1, the list includes festivals like Madhwa Navami on February 6, Holi on March 13, and several others through the year, ending with Christmas Eve on December 24. This selection provides flexibility and acknowledges the diverse cultures within the state.
It is important to note that all state government administrative offices, as well as banks and post offices within Karnataka, will observe these holidays. This announcement provides a great opportunity for everyone to schedule their holiday time in advance, ensuring they can make the most of their days off, whether for relaxation or celebration.
Furthermore, the significance of having both general and restricted holidays allows individuals to prioritize their celebrations and plan accordingly. This thoughtful scheduling reflects the government's recognition of the state's cultural diversity and the importance of leisure in people's lives.
As per the new list, a total of 19 general holidays and 20 restricted holidays have been sanctioned for the year.
