Karnataka Caste Census was headed by K Jayaprakash Hegde and he submitted the report to CM Siddaramaiah last year on February 29.

"The CM has spoken about it. I have not yet seen the report as I was visiting Belagavi and Mangaluru yesterday. It has to be discussed in the cabinet. Apparently, the CM has said that it will be discussed in the Assembly too. No one will take any hasty decision," Shivakumar said.

"Some may be making political statements about it (caste census), but we will understand the facts and do justice for all," he added.

As per Karnataka Caste Survey 2025 report, data of a total of 5.98 crore citizens was collected, which highlighted that 4.16 crore people (approximately 70%) belong to various OBC categories. Hence, a need of hiking OBC quota in the state from 32% to 51% was recommended by the committee in their report.
