Karnataka: Cobra Swallows Kitchen Knife In Uttara Kannada Home, Rescued In Daring Operation | WATCH

In a bizarre and alarming incident, a cobra in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district managed to swallow a kitchen knife, mistaking it for food.

The reptile had slithered into a home in Hegde Village-approximately 4 km from Kumta Taluk's sub-district headquarters-while in search of prey, according to reports.

The situation took place at the residence of Govinda Naik, prompting the arrival of snake rescuer Pavan and veterinary assistant Advaith Bhat. The duo were called in to safely extract the snake and address the unusual situation.

Journalist Yasir Mushtaq shared the footage on X, writing: "In a rare incident in Hedge Village in #Karnataka's #Karwar, a #Cobra mistakenly swallowed a kitchen knife while searching for prey. #Snake rescuer Pavan & veterinary assistant Advaith safely removed the 12-inch #knife using medical tools. The cobra was unharmed & later released."

A video that has since gone viral shows the rescuers gently removing the cobra from a sack in which it had been secured.

As the snake emerges, the outline of a knife-measuring around 12 inches in length and 2 inches in width-is clearly visible inside its body.

In a subsequent clip, the two men can be seen working meticulously to extract the knife. One holds the cobra's upper jaw steady while the other uses a pair of medical scissors to keep the mouth open.

A second pair of scissors is then employed to delicately remove the embedded blade from the serpent's throat.

This isn't the first time the region has made headlines for snake rescues. In September 2024, an 11-foot cobra was safely removed from a home in Odisha's Bangra village after it chased a monitor lizard indoors. The snake, weighing 6.7 kg, was later released into the Dukra wildlife range in Mayurbhanj.

Earlier in July 2024, another dramatic encounter saw the capture of a 12-foot-long King Cobra in South Karnataka, spotted crossing a busy road. Locals promptly informed the forest department, who intervened and safely relocated the snake.
