Karnataka Budget 2025 LIVE Updates: Siddaramaiah Presents His Record 16th Budget
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the state budget for the year 2025-26 on March 7. This will be the 16th budget to be presented by him.
The size of the 2025-26 budget is expected to reach Rs 4 lakh crore, an increase from the Rs 3.71 lakh crore allocated in the current fiscal year.

Funding Allocation for Various Departments

The allocation of funds across different departments is detailed as follows: * Department of Education - ₹45,286 crore * Department of Women and Child Welfare - ₹34,955 crore * Department of Energy - ₹26,896 crore * Department of Rural Development - ₹26,735 crore * Urban Development, Housing Department - ₹21,405 crore * Home Administration and Transport Department - ₹20,625 crore * Health and Family Welfare Department - ₹17,473 crore * Revenue Department - ₹17,11 crore * Public Utilities Department - ₹11,841 crore * Food Department - ₹8,275 crore * Department of Agriculture and Horticulture - ₹7,145 crore * Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department - ₹3,977 crore.
Siddaramaiah addressed the topic of government employees during the budget announcement, revealing that in line with the 7th State Pay Commission's recommendations, the salaries, pensions, and certain allowances for state government employees will be adjusted and come into effect on 01.08.2024. He noted that this change will result in an additional annual expenditure of Rs 19,401 crore for the state.
The Congress-led government in the state has designated financial resources in its budget to enhance security in Bengaluru. Recently, concerns have surfaced regarding the city's law and order situation. Consequently, the budget includes a significant overhaul for the police department.
Liquor Prices Set to Rise
In his budget address, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah established a revenue goal of ₹36,500 crore for the excise department. This initiative will result in higher alcohol prices across the state. The government has opted to adjust the excise slab, as announced during his speech.
Karnataka Declares Naxal-Free Status by Disbanding Anti-Naxal Force
In a recent budget announcement, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has proclaimed Karnataka to be free of Naxal influence. He revealed a dedicated allocation of Rs 10 crore for the enhancement of infrastructure in regions previously affected by Naxal activities. Additionally, the Chief Minister confirmed the disbandment of the Anti-Naxal Force.
