1. Why is the bandh happening?

The 12-hour statewide bandh in Karnataka has been called by pro-Kannada organizations, led by veteran activist Vatal Nagaraj. It was triggered by an assault on a bus crew by pro-Marathi groups in Belagavi, but the broader aim is to uphold Kannadiga pride. The protesters believe Kannadigas are losing jobs and economic opportunities in their own state. Also, the protestors are opposing the Bengaluru Governance Bill 2024 which was cleared by the assembly recently.
