Karnataka Bandh Tomorrow: Will the Shutdown Bring the City to a Halt on March 22?
Karnataka Bandh on March 22: Karnataka is set to witness a state-wide bandh on Saturday, March 22, as around 3,000 pro-Kannada organisations have announced a protest. The bandh is expected to cause disruptions in various sectors, though essential services will continue to function.
Karnataka Bandh Timings
The bandh is scheduled to take place from 6 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, March 22.

Reason for the Karnataka Bandh
The bandh has been called following an incident in Belagavi on February 21, where a group of Marathi youth allegedly assaulted bus conductor Mahadev near Sulebhavi-Balekundri. The altercation reportedly began after the conductor asked a passenger to converse in Kannada, escalating tensions in the region.
Who is Leading the Protest?
The protest will be spearheaded by activist Vatal Nagaraj, the president of Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha. Various pro-Kannada organizations have extended their moral and external support to the bandh.
Impact on Schools, Colleges, and Government Offices
Despite the Karnataka bandh, government support is lacking, meaning schools, colleges, government offices will operate as usual.
Private Schools to Stay Open
The Karnataka Private Schools Association has expressed moral support for the bandh. However, Shashi Kumar, General Secretary of the Association of Private School Management Boards (CAMS), confirmed that schools will remain open. Given that many districts, including Bengaluru, have ongoing school exams, schools will not participate in the bandh or declare a holiday. Similarly, private colleges will also remain open.
Protests and Rallies Planned Across Karnataka
Protests and rallies will take place in major district centers, including Bengaluru, on Saturday morning. Protesters are expected to march with placards, chant slogans, and deliver speeches condemning the actions of Maharashtra, Marathi groups, and both central and state governments. A protest march from Bangalore Town Hall to Independence Park is scheduled at 10:30 AM.
Pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj has stated that all establishments except essential services will remain closed during the bandh.

Government Offices and Banks

Banks: Will remain closed as it is the fourth Saturday.
Opposition to the Bandh
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike state president T.A. Narayana Gowda has stated that his organization does not support the bandh and will not participate. He argued that previous protests in Belagavi have already addressed the issue, and the local police commissioner has assured action against any injustices faced by Kannadigas.
Organisations Providing Moral Support
Several associations have extended moral support but will continue operations as usual:
Hotel Owners Association
State Bus Owners Association
Private School Bus Drivers Union
Ola-Uber Drivers and Owners Association
