Karnataka: 2 Women Including Israeli Tourist Gang Raped Near Hampi

On a day the world is celebrating Women's Day, a shocking incident of rape case has come to light from Hampi in Karnataka.

Two women, including a 27-year-old Israeli tourist, were allegedly gang-raped on Thursday night around 11.30 pm in Koppal.

The foreigner and a 29-year-old female operator of the homestay are the victims. The incident occurred when the two victims, a 29-year-old woman operator of the homestay along with three males on the serene banks of a canal in Koppal, according to a report in PTI.

The police said that one among the three male tourists is from the United States, the two others hail from Odisha and Maharashtra.

The report claims that three men on a motorcycle approached them, asking for petrol. When informed that no fuel was available, the men demanded ₹100. Upon refusal, they became aggressive, speaking in Kannada and Telugu, and allegedly assaulted the group.

The accused reportedly raped the homestay operator and an Israeli tourist before pushing three male travelers into a canal. While Daniel from the U.S. and Pankaj from Maharashtra managed to swim to safety, Bibash from Odisha drowned. His body was recovered the next morning.

Two of the male tourists sustained injuries, while the women are undergoing treatment at a hospital. A case has been registered under sections related to gang rape, extortion, dacoity, and attempted murder. Police have identified the suspects and formed six teams to apprehend them.

"Five people - two women and three men - were attacked near Sanapur. Two of them are foreigners - an American, and another a woman from Israel. The woman said in her complaint that besides being beaten up, the two women were sexually assaulted by the accused," NDTV quoted Ram L Arasiddi, Superintendent of Police, Koppal, as saying.
