The incident occurred early on January 22 near Gulapura village on the Yalapura Highway. The crash happened around 4:00 am as the truck lost control.

The victims, who were all fruit vendors, had departed from Savanur and were en route to the Yellapura fair to sell their produce. They were travelling along the Savanur-Hubballi road when the accident took place in a forested area. According to Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police M Narayana, the truck fell into a 50-metre-deep valley during its journey.

Accident Details and Response

Superintendent Narayana explained that the truck driver attempted to make way for another vehicle by moving to the extreme left, which led to the fall into the valley. "Around 4:00 am, the truck driver in a bid to give side to another vehicle went to the extreme left and fell into an about 50 metre deep Valley," he stated. He also mentioned that there was no protective wall along that section of the road.

The impact of the accident was severe, with ten individuals losing their lives instantly. The injured were promptly transported to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi for medical treatment. "Ten persons were killed on the spot and 20 got critical injuries. The injured have been shifted to the KIMS Hospital in Hubballi," Narayana confirmed.

Another Tragic Incident in Sindhanur

In a separate incident in Karnataka's Raichur district, four people died and ten sustained injuries when a vehicle overturned at Sindhanur. Following this unfortunate event, authorities conducted postmortems before returning the bodies to their families. A case has been registered at Sindhanur Traffic Police Station regarding this accident.

The absence of safety measures like protective barriers on roads can lead to such tragic outcomes. Both incidents highlight the need for improved road safety measures and infrastructure enhancements across Karnataka's highways.
