July 8 Holiday In Karnataka: BBMP, Other Municipal Offices to Remain Closed Across Cities
Municipal offices across Karnataka, including the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), will remain closed on July 8, 2025, as employees launch a statewide protest in Freedom Park, Bengaluru. The demonstration is expected to bring civic services in major cities such as Mysuru, Mangaluru, Tumakuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Davanagere, Shivamogga, and Belagavi to a standstill.
The employees are protesting against severe staff shortages, delayed promotions, and the controversial LogSafe attendance system. The closure of offices on July 8 has effectively turned it into an unofficial holiday for municipal corporations across Karnataka.

Why Are BBMP and Municipal Offices Closed on July 8?
The BBMP alone has over 6,000 vacancies across its 225 wards. Employees say the existing workforce is overburdened and cannot cope with increasing civic demands. Their primary demands include:
Immediate recruitment to fill vacant positions
Withdrawal of the LogSafe attendance system
Timely promotions for engineering and administrative posts
Fair treatment of principals and headmasters under investigation
Health benefits on par with state government employees
Finalisation of service seniority lists
Abolition of illegal marshal positions within BBMP
Transfer of deputed officials back to their departments
Reinstatement of the older e-property system for registrations
Protest Demands and Concerns
Employees have also raised concerns about the attendance system implemented under the LogSafe method. They find it challenging and want it revoked immediately. Additionally, they demand that promotions be granted without delay for various engineering positions within BBMP.
Another issue involves principals and headmasters in the BBMP's education department facing inquiries for minor reasons. Employees want these investigations halted as they believe they are unjustified.
Municipal Corporations Affected
The protest will affect day-to-day operations in the following cities:
Bengaluru (BBMP)
Mysuru City Corporation
Mangaluru City Corporation
Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation
Tumakuru Municipal Corporation
Shivamogga City Corporation
Belagavi and Davanagere Municipal Bodies
There is a call for the immediate cancellation of illegal marshal positions within BBMP. Employees also demand that officials working on loan services be returned to their parent departments without delay.
The revenue department's processes like account transfers and registrations should continue under the previous e-property system according to regulations. This is another key demand from the protesting employees.
The protest aims to address these issues comprehensively while ensuring that special commissioners are appointed only at specific posts without assigning them additional zonal responsibilities.
Employees are determined to see their demands met through this collective action. They hope that by closing offices and gathering in protest, authorities will take notice and act on their grievances effectively.
