Jayalalithaa's seat falls vacant: Notification after receiving copy of verdict, say authorities

Jamaludeen, when asked about the notification, said they could not go by the media reports, the Hindu added.
Jayalalithaa, her aide Sasikala and two others were convicted in the 18-year-old disproportionate assets case and were slapped huge fines by the special court. John Michael d'Cunha was the judge who gave the verdict.
By-election needs to be held within six months from the date when a constituency falls vacant. As Jayalalithaa lost her MLA status, Srirangam would have to go the bypoll to elect a new representative to the assembly.
Jayalalithaa won the Srirangam seat against DMK's N Anand by a margin of over 41,000 votes. She bagged 1,05,328 out of 1,78,646 votes polled in the election, the Hindu said.
