IT-city turning into chain snatchers' den

Bengaluru, Sept 17: Bengaluru, the IT-city has witnessed a sudden spurt in incidences of chain snatching. On Wednesday, Sept 16, for instance, four such cases have been reported within a span of an hour.

In all the cases, motor-borne muggers target women.

In the first case, a 55 year-old women, who is resident of Sai Nagar, was targetted. She was standing outside her house (which comes under the Vidyaranyapura police area) when motorists robbed her of her gold chain weighing 50 gms.

In the same area, another woman Taradevi (65) who was returning for home from a shop in Balaji Layout, was targetted by bike muggers who snatched her chain weighing 30 gms.

In Vyalikaval police area, 45-year-old Sujatha was visiting Kodandarama temple on the occasion of Gauri Ganesha, then they sped with her gold chain weighing 35 gram.

The fourth incident took place near Banaswadi police limit, when 40-year old Rajani was accosted by muggers as she was on her way to pick her children from their school at ITC road. They fled away with her 35 gms gold chain.

The police suspects that a single gang is behind all the cases of chain snatching.
