Is The Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe Blast Suspect Still At Large? NIA Denies Detainment Reports
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has refuted media claims suggesting the detention of a suspect in the Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe IED blast case.
Earlier reports from certain TV channels and news agencies, citing unnamed sources, alleged that the NIA, currently investigating the Rameshwaram Cafe blast incident, had apprehended an individual from Ballari district in Karnataka. According to the reports, the detained individual bore some resemblance to the prime suspect, as per sources cited by news agency PTI.

Another news outlet, ANI, also referencing NIA sources, stated that the suspect, identified as Shabbir, was taken into custody from Bellary district. "He is still under interrogation in the case. It is yet to be determined whether he matches the individual captured on CCTV footage," the sources were quoted as saying.
This development follows Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara's statement two days ago, suggesting that investigators have made progress in identifying the suspect involved in the March 1 blast at the popular eatery. Parameshwara mentioned that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect, and investigators are verifying his identity. The blast, caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), occurred at a quick-service eatery in the Brookefield area, injuring 10 people. The NIA, along with the assistance of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru Police, is conducting the investigation.
The NIA, which took over the case on March 3, has announced a reward of ₹10 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the bomber involved in the Rameshwaram Cafe blast. The agency assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential. Additionally, the NIA released a picture of the suspected bomber captured from CCTV footage, showing the individual wearing a cap, black pants, and black shoes.
In a post on 'X', the NIA reiterated the cash reward announcement and emphasized that any information contributing to the arrest of the bomber would be rewarded. The blast occurred at 1 pm on March 1, with CCTV footage capturing a suspect placing a bag inside the cafe. Preliminary investigations suggest the use of an IED device with a timer for the explosion.
