IMD Issues Karnataka Rain Alert; Bengaluru, Several Districts To See Gusty Winds Up To 50 kmph From May 14

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain activity across 16 districts in Karnataka on May 13, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely in several north interior and south interior regions. Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural are also among 17 districts placed under a wider rain and wind alert from May 14 onwards.

According to the IMD's latest impact-based forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru, coastal, north interior and south interior Karnataka districts are expected to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers during the five-day period. Gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph have also been forecast in multiple districts.

On May 13, the weather system is expected to expand further on May 13. IMD has forecast gusty winds of 40-50 kmph along with rain and thundershowers in six north interior Karnataka districts - Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal and Raichur.

In south interior Karnataka, eight districts - Shivamogga, Davanagere, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Mandya - are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms with winds of 30-40 kmph.

IMD has indicated stronger weather activity on May 14, including hailstorm warnings in parts of north interior Karnataka. Five districts - Bagalkote, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Koppal - are likely to witness rain accompanied by hail and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph. Three more districts: Yadgir, Haveri and Raichur are expected to receive rain with gusty winds.

The IMD has also forecast rain and thundershowers with winds of 40-50 kmph across 17 south interior Karnataka districts, including Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural, along with Ballari, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapura and Kolar.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain, thundershowers and gusty winds in Bengaluru over the next few days.

According to the latest IMD forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru, both Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts are likely to witness partly cloudy skies between May 12 and May 16.

Light rain and thundershowers are expected from May 13 onwards, while light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph is likely between May 14 and May 16.

As per IMD data, Bengaluru Urban recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.4 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours, while Bengaluru Rural recorded 34.7 degrees Celsius and 22.7 degrees Celsius respectively. No rainfall was recorded in either district.

The IMD forecast said daytime temperatures are likely to remain around 35-36 degrees Celsius during the week.
