Illegal construction in B'luru: 14 officials suspended, action against 20 recommended
Bengaluru, Aug 10: The Karnataka government has suspended 14 officials after it was alleged that they were involved in allowing illegal constructions to take place in Bengaluru. The 14 officials are part of a list released by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) which has recommended the names of 20 officials who are alleged to have let illegal constructions take place in the city.
The names have been recommended in the wake of the BBMP undertaking a major drive to clear illegal constructions on storm water drains.

Out of the 20 names that have been recommended for action, six have retired. The suspension order of 14 persons was carried out following an order of the additional secretary of the urban development department.
The BBMP in its note states that it has been identified that there is prima facie evidence that the officials have done wrong.
It states that those who are still in service will be placed under immediate suspension. A detailed inquiry may be ordered in these cases by the Special Commissioner (Projects) BBMP to get to the root of the matter, the note also states.

With regard to those officials who have retired the government is looking at legal options. Cases have been filed against all of them and an inquiry would be conducted. Based on the result of the inquiry, prosecution would be ordered.
