How Namma Metro Is Ensuring Safe Travel Amid Rising Dengue Cases in Bengaluru?
The dengue situation in Karnataka has taken a worrisome turn, with Bengaluru bearing the brunt of the outbreak. As cases continue to rise, public transport commuters are growing increasingly anxious. In response to this concern, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has launched a cleanliness drive to ensure that Namma metro stations and offices are free from mosquito breeding grounds.
Under this initiative, areas around metro premises, offices, and any spots where water accumulates - such as rainwater puddles and wet waste - are being thoroughly cleaned. Additionally, a daily spraying of insecticides has been made mandatory at metro stations, with two rounds of spraying scheduled each day. This step aims to prevent the spread of dengue and ensure a safe commuting experience for passengers.

Namma Metro staff are also spraying insecticides at bus stops within the metro's jurisdiction. Additionally, BMRCL has mandated health check-ups for its staff.
House-to-House Survey in Bengaluru
Due to the increasing number of dengue cases in Bengaluru, BBMP is conducting surveys in all zones to raise awareness about dengue. Information is being collected on the number of people in each household, any cases of fever, the number of water tanks, and symptoms like body aches and cough. If any symptoms are found, blood tests are advised at primary health centers.
If dengue is confirmed after a blood test, home isolation is recommended. BBMP health officials are collecting all the necessary information and spraying insecticides around the homes.
So far this year, over 1,500 dengue cases have been reported in Bengaluru. Compared to last year, the significant increase in dengue cases is a cause for concern.
