Over 1.42 crore consumers in Karnataka will not pay their electricity bills in August as the Karnataka government has rolled out the Gruha Jyothi scheme to give free power to up to 200 units.

Of the 2.1 crore eligible households, 1.42 crore are eligible for the scheme this month. The Electricity Supply Companies (Escoms) has started issuing zero current bill for eligible consumers from Tuesday.

On the first day, Bescom, till 6 pm, had generated over 2 lakh bills out of which over 1 lakh were under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, according to a report in The Times Of India.

After analyzing individual RR (revenue realization) data from nearly 2.2 crore households, the department identified that power consumption in 2.1 crore households remained within the prescribed limit of 200 units per month. As per the government, only 67 per cent of the eligible households in Karnataka have registered for the scheme, so far.

Energy Minister George said: "Registration is not mandatory. Many may have multiple RR numbers and hence would have chosen to apply for only one number. A few might have chosen not to avail the scheme. But if any household still wants to register, they are free to do so."

Meanwhile, BESCOM has shared clips of consumers expressing their happiness over receiving zero bills.

Also, a zero bill of a consumer is now doing rounds on social media.

• Log Into: https://sevasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in/
• On the home page, there is an option to find the status - Track Your Application Status
• Click the text.
• Upon clicking it, you will be taken to another page where you will be asked to select Escom name
• Then, enter your account number
• The result will show the status of your application.

Note: For a quick registration keep your Aadhaar number, Account ID of your electricity connection and mobile number of Aadhaar ready with you.

• Log Into -https://sevasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in/gsdn/
• Click the check box, enter captcha and press submit button.
• You will be asked to enter Aadhaar Card number.
• In the next page, you will be asked to confirm your Aadhaar number and an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
• Once entering the OTP, you will have to enter your consumer number along with other details.
