Hebbal Flyover Lane Construction: Two New Lanes To Come Up For KR Puram, Nagavara Commuters
Relief is on the way for commuters grappling with traffic snarls at the Hebbal Flyover. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has begun construction of two new lanes on the flyover, aiming to ease congestion especially for those travelling KR Puram to Bengaluru City (Mekhri Circle).
However, before smoother sailing arrives, drivers will need to navigate some temporary changes. Here's what you need to know:

- Two-wheeler Ban on KR Puram Loop: Be advised that two-wheelers have not been allowed on the KR Puram loop since April 17, 2024.
- KR Puram Ramps Closed: As of May 14, 2024, both ramps connecting KR Puram to the Hebbal Flyover are closed to facilitate construction of the new lanes.
Public transport woes will be minimised as authorities have diverted routes to ensure minimal disruption. These diversions will be in effect until construction is complete.
For those driving private vehicles, here are the alternative routes to follow:
- Outer Ring Road (Nagavara): For commuters from Nagavara (ORR) heading towards the city via Mekri Circle, please proceed to Hebbal Circle beneath the flyover, turn right towards Kodigehalli, make a U-turn to access the service road, and then join the loop towards the city.
- KR Puram, Nagavara: Commuters coming from the KR Puram side towards the city are advised to take the following alternative routes: IOC-Mukunda Theater Road, Lingarajapura Flyover route, and Nagavara-Tannery Road.
- Commuters from Hegdenagar-Thanisandra can use the GKVK-Jakkur road to enter the city.
- For commuters traveling from KR Puram towards Yashawanthapura, proceed straight below the Hebbala flyover towards BEL Circle. Take a left turn at BEL Circle to reach Sadashivanagar Police Station junction, then take a right turn towards IISc and onwards to Yashawanthapura.
- Commuters heading towards KIAL Airport from KR Puram, Hennuru, HRBR layout, Banasawadi, K G Halli, and surrounding areas are advised to use the Hennuru-Bagaluru Road to reach the airport.
The BDA's construction of these new lanes is a strategic move to improve traffic flow at the busy Hebbal junction, a critical point for both airport access and connections to the IT corridor.
While the project will ultimately benefit traffic flow, commuters can expect delays and congestion during construction.
