Hebbal Flyover Expansion to Open After Aug 15: Four-Lane Road Work from Airport to Mekhri Circle Almost Done

The much-anticipated Hebbal Flyover expansion work in Bengaluru is set to open for traffic after August 15, according to Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) President NA Haris. At a press conference, Haris confirmed that work has been expedited and is progressing swiftly, following instructions from the state government.

He also clarified that while the project had earlier faced delays, cost overruns were minimal. Haris added that BDA has issued notices to those with pending payments on 1,600 CA sites, offering a 120-day deadline. If the principal amount is paid within this period, 18% interest will be waived.

Hebbal Flyover Expansion to Open After Aug 15 Four-Lane Road Work from Airport to Mekhri Circle Almost Done

What Is the Hebbal Flyover Work About?

The project involves widening the existing two-lane stretch from Kempegowda International Airport towards Baptist Hospital into a four-lane road, aimed at decongesting traffic heading to Mekhri Circle. The BDA is also completing a ramp from the Baptist Hospital side to help commuters traveling from KR Puram towards Mekhri Circle.

Currently, the road that merges from KR Puram into the two-lane flyover often leads to heavy congestion, especially during peak hours. The road expansion is expected to ease bottlenecks and streamline traffic movement into the city.

The acceleration comes after Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh instructed the BDA in January 2025 to complete the KR Puram loop work within 100 days. Officials say the work is on track and will likely be finished shortly after Independence Day.

Why the Hebbal Flyover Work Matters

The Hebbal Flyover is a critical junction that connects Bellary Road, Kempegowda International Airport, and major roads leading to northern Karnataka and neighboring states. With the rise in airport-bound traffic, the expansion aims to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost commuter safety.

Once completed, the improved infrastructure is expected to provide long-term relief for thousands of commuters and ease one of Bengaluru's most congested corridors.
