Ganesh Chaturthi: No Sale Of Meat In Bengaluru Today
In view of Gowri and Ganesh festivals, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has banned the slaughter and sale of meat in the state's capital on Monday.
"On 18th September 2023, on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi, slaughtering of animals and sale of meat under BBMP is completely prohibited," the BBMP Commissioner said in an order.

Going by the BBMP data, Bengaluru has 3,000 meat shops which are licensed to sell meat with three authorised slaughterhouses. However, reports claim that many meat shops operate without licenses.
The sale of meat shops during Hindu festivals has become quite common in the BJP-ruled states. However, this time, the order on the meat ban has come when the Congress government is in power in Karnataka.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and pomp mainly in states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh along with many other parts of India. Ganesh Chaturthi is the day Lord Ganesh is worshipped for wisdom, prosperity, good fortune and well-being.
