Members of the Janata Dal-United performed mock funeral rites for a dysfunctional ATM in Bengaluru on Friday. A month after demonetisation move, many ATMs continue to display out of cash boards. The funeral was their unique attempt to protest inconveniences caused due to demonetisation.
Protestors decked up an ATM at Mysore Bank Circle with garlands, called in a priest to perform last rites and even offered 'pinda'. The funeral protest went on for an hour.
"If an ATM doesn't have money to dispense, it is useless and is as good as dead," said one of the protestors.
They said that they would courier offerings from the funeral to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appraise him of the situation of cashless ATMs in the country.
