FIR Filed Against Nirmala Sitharaman Following Bengaluru Court's Ruling On Electoral Bonds

A special court in Bengaluru has ordered the filing of a case against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and several others in connection with the controversial electoral bonds scheme, which has been abolished. An FIR was lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including extortion, criminal conspiracy, and acts by multiple individuals with a shared intent.

FIR Filed Against Nirmala Sitharaman Following Bengaluru Court s Ruling On Electoral Bonds

The case was filed in response to a complaint filed by Adarsh R Iyer, the Co-President of 'Janaadhikaara Sangharsha Parishath' (JSP), which alleged that the accused engaged in extortion disguised as electoral bonds, reaping over ₹8,000 crore. The complaint further alleged that Sitharaman, with covert assistance from Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials, enabled the siphoning of vast amounts for the advantage of various individuals across state and national platforms.

The accused also include key BJP figures, including Karnataka president B. Y. Vijayendra and party leader Nalin Kumar Kateel, as well as officials from the ED.

The controversy has sparked a political row in Karnataka, with the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticizing the BJP for not protesting against Sitharaman's alleged role in the electoral bonds scheme. Siddaramaiah himself is facing scrutiny in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment "scam" case and has called for Sitharaman's resignation.

The BJP, however, has denied any wrongdoing and has accused the Congress government of launching a political vendetta against Sitharaman. The controversy has added to the already tense political atmosphere in Karnataka, where both parties are gearing up for the upcoming elections.
