FIR Against BJP Candidate K Sudhakar, Cash Worth Rs 4.8 Cr Seized In Chikkaballapura

The Flying Surveillance Team (SST) of Karnataka's Chikkaballapura made a major seizure on Wednesday, capturing cash amounting to a staggering Rs 4.8 crores, the Election Commission said on Friday.

The SST team of Chikkaballapura constituency has further escalated the matter by lodging an FIR against BJP candidate K Sudhakar at the Madanayakanahally Police Station. The FIR accuses Sudhakar of engaging in bribery and exerting undue influence on electors, marking a serious turn of events in the lead-up to the elections.

Taking to 'X', Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer on Friday said the FST of Chikkaballapura seized cash to the tune of ₹4.8 crores.

The Chief Electoral Officer provided details about the case, stating, "The FIR No.0355/2024 is booked under sections 123 of the RP Act and 171(B,C,E,F) of the IPC for bribery and undue influence on electors."

Today, in the second phase of general elections 2024, elections are taking place in Chikkaballapura Lok Sabha constituency, one of the 28 LS seats in Karnataka. K Sudhakar is contesting on the BJP ticket, while Congress has fielded MS Raksha Ramaiah.

Dr. Sudhakar, formerly with the Congress Party, was among the 18 disqualified MLAs who later joined the BJP in 2019. He is a graduate professional and has total assets or net worth of Rs 33.4 crore, with Rs 9.9 crore in movable assets and Rs 23.5 crore in immovable assets, along with Rs 20.3 crore in liabilities. Professionally, Dr. K. Sudhakar is engaged as a Doctor in Shri Sai Krishna Charitable Trust, Bangalore.

As polling began in 88 parliamentary constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories in the second phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to vote in large numbers, highlighting the crucial role of high voter turnout in strengthening democracy. PM Modi specifically encouraged young and female voters to actively engage in the electoral process. Meanwhile, Congress leaders Malikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi also urged people to vote, underscoring the importance of this election in upholding the constitution.
