Election Commission Issues Warning: Iftar Party On Road In Karnataka Sparks Concern
A notice was issued by the Election Commission to the organisers of an iftar party held on a busy road in Mangalore, Karnataka, on Friday.
This action came in response to numerous videos circulating on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

In the video one could see the arrangement of rows of chairs and the placement of food plates along one side of the road at the bustling Mudipu Junction area during Ramadan, a time when Muslims observe their daily fast and break it with an iftar meal.

Following the circulation of a viral video, social media users began questioning the decision to hold an iftar party on a public road rather than indoors or at a designated public venue. This particular iftar gathering attracted a diverse crowd, including rickshaw drivers, traders, and local residents from the area.
The Election Commission responded swiftly by issuing a notice to the organizer of the event, identified as Abu Bakar. The notice cited the organizer for causing public inconvenience by obstructing the road with the iftar party setup.
It's pertinent to note the prevailing enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Karnataka, triggered by the announcement of the Lok Sabha polls schedule. This effectively places the administration under the direct control of the Election Commission, underscoring the seriousness with which any potential violations, such as public disturbances or disruptions, are addressed.
