Dry Days: Could Bengaluru Soon Run Out Of Beer Due To Increasing Demand?
Bengaluru, already grappling with a water crisis, might face another challenge: a beer shortage. Pubs and breweries in the city are struggling to keep up with the rising demand for beer, leading to delays in restocking retail stores.
This surprising situation stems from a surge in beer consumption. Recent months have seen a significant increase in sales, fueled by the hot summer weather, the IPL season, and multiple long weekends. Customers, seeking respite from the heat, are opting for beer over other beverages, causing a strain on supplies.

Unexpected Demand Outstrips Supply
Breweries, caught off guard by the higher-than-anticipated demand, are finding it difficult to adapt. They often introduce fruit-flavored beers during the summer, relying heavily on fruits like mangoes and pineapples. However, this year's subpar mango crop led to lower sales of these seasonal offerings, pushing customers towards regular beer varieties.
The surge in demand isn't the only hurdle. Maintaining cool fermentation temperatures and adequately chilling the wort (a crucial brewing ingredient) becomes challenging during the scorching summer months. Additionally, breweries are facing staffing shortages, further impacting production efficiency.
The potential beer shortage might force pubs and breweries to discontinue weekend promotions like "buy 2 get 1" offers. This could lead to higher prices for consumers.
