Delays Mount As Bengaluru Pushes For Opening Of Double-Decker Flyover on Namma Metro Lines
Bengaluru commuters are urging the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to quickly open the lower deck of the long-awaited double-decker flyover in Bengaluru, connecting Ragigudda to Central Silk Board (CSB) over a stretch of 3.3 kilometres, which has been delayed for months. According to reports, the double-decker flyover is awaiting a formal inauguration by VIPs, but residents argue that there should be no further delay since the infrastructure is already complete.
The flyover, part of the Yellow Line Metro project, was initially expected to be completed by the end of 2023, but subsequent deadlines of May 2024 and June were missed. The BMRCL is waiting for approvals from the central and state governments, its partners in the project, to set an official opening date.

Despite being ready for over a year and a half, the lower deck has yet to be opened to the public. The ramps at Silk Board junction were recently completed, allowing partial traffic flow from Ragiguda and BTM Layout towards HSR Layout and Hosur Road. However, completion for traffic in the opposite direction is expected to take another year.
The double-decker flyover will provide a significant improvement to traffic flow in South Bangalore, connecting key areas such as Whitefield, Electronics City, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout. The flyover will also facilitate future interchange between the Yellow and Pink lines at Jayadeva hospital junction.
In 2016-17, BMRCL modified the elevated Metro corridor design to incorporate the city's first double-decker flyover, which cost ₹449 crore for the road infrastructure.
When asked about the opening date, a BMRCL official stated that it will be announced shortly.
