Cyclone Effect: Bengaluru Sees Early Morning Rains, Traffic Snarls Across City

Bengaluru residents were greeted with an unexpected downpour early this morning, with rain beginning as early as 4 AM. The steady drizzle has thrown daily routines into disarray, especially for commuters.

Motorists have been struggling to navigate the slippery roads, while office-goers are facing delays. The rain has impacted several parts of the city, leading to traffic snarls in various areas during the morning rush hour. As the city continues to experience rainfall, residents are bracing for a wet and challenging day ahead.

Commuters also witnessed early morning traffic jam at Goraguntepalya flyover.

The weather department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across Karnataka over the next three days, including Bengaluru. This is due to a low-pressure system developing over the southeastern Bay of Bengal, leading to unstable weather conditions in the region.

Several districts, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mandya, Mysuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Hassan, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada, are likely to experience heavy downpours.

Bengaluru weather forecast

The past two days have seen intermittent showers, with some areas of Bengaluru experiencing heavy downpours. As the city's infrastructure struggles to manage the aftermath of yesterday's rains, forecasts indicate that the wet weather is far from over.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts mostly cloudy skies for the rest of the week, with light rain and occasional thundershowers expected across the city. Conditions are set to worsen as the weekend approaches, with heavier rainfall predicted.

A yellow alert is in place for Bengaluru Urban on Wednesday and Thursday (October 16-17), warning of possible heavy rains. By Friday (October 18), the alert will escalate to an orange level, signaling the likelihood of more intense downpours.

Independent weather forecasters have also cautioned about a significant rain event expected between Wednesday evening and Friday morning, raising concerns about potential flooding and severe traffic disruptions. With Bengaluru's pothole-riddled roads already under strain, commuters are advised to be extra cautious. Traffic congestion has already been reported in major parts of the city today, as the combination of rain and the post-holiday rush creates further challenges for those returning to work.
