CM Ibrahim Dismissed As Karnataka JD(S) President After Publicly Contradicting Deve Gowda

Former Union Minister CM Ibrahim has been dismissed from the Janata Dal Secular (JDS) president post, party's national president and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda announced on Thursday. With CM Ibrahim's removal, HD Kumaraswamy has been appointed as the interim party president.

Under the leadership of the party's national president, HD Deve Gowda, and with the presence of former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and core committee chairman GT Deve Gowda, a meeting was convened. This gathering comprised a 20-member core committee, a 60-member council, 19 MLAs, along with former MLAs and former MPs from the party.

Earlier, a fake press release bearing the JDS party's letterhead and purportedly issued by JDS national president HD Deve Gowda had been circulated on social media platforms. This press release falsely claimed that the state president, CM Ibrahim, had been expelled from the party, stating that his expulsion was effective immediately.

It must be noted that CM Ibrahim publicly expressed unhappiness with the JDS party's alliance with the BJP. It is reported that he has distanced himself from party engagements following Kumaraswamy's meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda in Delhi. On Monday, Ibrahim asserted that Deve Gowda was not in favor of the party's alignment with the BJP.

Chand Mahal Ibrahim was the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Civil Aviation and Tourism in the successive governments of Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and Inder Kumar Gujral from 1996 to 1998.
