BMRCL Confirms Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike, Official Announcement Tomorrow
In the bustling city of Bengaluru, the metro has become an essential mode of transportation for its residents, witnessing a steady increase in users. With the expansion of the metro network, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is poised to adjust its ticket prices to accommodate this growth. Yashwant Chauhan, the Senior Public Relations Officer for BMRCL, confirmed the price adjustment, noting that the decision was made during a recent meeting at the BMRCL headquarters in Shanthinagar. An official announcement detailing the changes is expected to be made tomorrow, bringing a significant shift for metro passengers.

The fare adjustment comes after a long period of stable prices, marking the first increase in seven years for Namma Metro. This decision was not made lightly; a special committee was established to consider the price hike, allowing passengers to share their opinions on the matter from October 3 to October 28. The feedback collected during this period was crucial for the committee, which planned to present its findings to BMRCL by the end of December. This inclusive approach highlights BMRCL's commitment to considering its passengers' perspectives before implementing the new fare structure.
Key Details on the Fare Hike
The proposed fare adjustment has been a topic of discussion for some time, with BMRCL originally suggesting a substantial 105% increase in ticket prices. However, insiders reveal that the actual hike is likely to be more moderate, ranging between 40% to 45%. Under the new pricing scheme, the minimum fare of Rs. 10 will remain unchanged, ensuring affordability for short-distance travelers. Meanwhile, the maximum ticket price is set to rise from Rs. 60 to Rs. 90. Additionally, there's a plan to increment the fare by Rs. 10 for every two kilometers traveled, aiming to balance the financial sustainability of the metro service with passenger convenience.
This fare revision is a reflection of the metro's operational and maintenance needs, which have evolved significantly since the last price adjustment. The formation of a committee to review ticket prices and the open call for passenger feedback underscore BMRCL's efforts to engage with its users and consider their input in its decisions. As the metro network continues to grow, such adjustments are pivotal for its ongoing development and the enhancement of services provided to Bengaluru's residents.
BMRCL's announcement regarding the fare hike is highly anticipated, as it will offer clarity on the new pricing structure and its implementation timeline. This move is expected to impact daily commuters and occasional travelers alike, making it a topic of considerable interest among the city's metro users. Despite the initial shock, the adjustments are seen as necessary for the financial health of the metro system and to support its expansion and improvements in service quality.
