Big Cats In The City: Leopards Spotted Yet Again In Different Areas Of Bengaluru

Just days after the unfortunate incident in which forest officials had to fatally shoot a leopard in the Bommanahalli Industrial Area of the city, two more of Big cats were spotted in separate locations. One leopard was spotted near AECS Layout and MS Dhoni Global School near Kudlu Gate, while the second was sighted in the Chikkathoguru area, just off NICE Road.

On November 1, the forest officials were compelled to use lethal force against a leopard near an abandoned building in the Bommanahalli Industrial Area, as it had reportedly attempted to attack a member of the forest personnel.

Following that incident, a few residents in the Kudlu Gate area reported spotting a leopard. Some individuals sighted the big cat near AECS Layout, while others noticed it in close proximity to the MS Dhoni Global School. The concerned residents promptly alerted the forest officials, who conducted on-site inspections. In response, the forest officials are actively working to locate and identify any tracks left behind by the elusive leopard.

In a separate occurrence, a leopard made an appearance in the residential area of Chikkathoguru, near NICE Road, during the evening hours on Sunday. The leopard ventured close to a house but retreated after being confronted by barking stray dogs.

These two incidents have understandably raised concerns and alarm among the local residents, who are now urging the forest officials to take appropriate action to safely relocate these magnificent animals back to their natural habitat.

The forest officials are closely monitoring the movements of the leopards in these two locations and are committed to taking necessary measures. The recent rainfall has made it difficult to discern the footprints of the leopard in the area.

On Monday, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre issued directives for the formation of a dedicated Leopard Task Force specifically tailored to address the rising incidence of leopard sightings in the Bengaluru region.
