Bharat Bandh Bengaluru: Will Cabs, Auto, Namma Metro And Delivery Services Impacted Due To Strike?

Bengaluru is on alert today, July 9, as Bharat Bandh impacts several sectors including transport, banking, postal, and power services. While the Karnataka government has not declared a holiday, commuters and residents are advised to stay informed about disruptions across the city.

BMTC and KSRTC Services: Open but Possibly Delayed

BMTC and KSRTC have not announced a full strike, but delays and cancellations are possible as staff unions show symbolic support for the bandh. Traffic diversions may also occur due to protests in areas like Freedom Park, Majestic, and Town Hall.

Metro trains and cabs are expected to run as usual, but commuters should check live updates before travelling.

Will Power Supply Be Hit in Bengaluru?

More than 27 lakh electricity workers are participating in the nationwide protest. While complete blackouts are unlikely, minor disruptions or voltage dips in some areas of Bengaluru cannot be ruled out. BESCOM has assured that emergency response teams are on standby.

Banks, Post Offices, and PSU Offices Likely to Be Disrupted

Banking operations in Bengaluru - including cheque clearances, customer service, and loan processing - may be delayed. Members of the AIBEA and BEFI unions are participating. Postal services might also see limited staffing.

PSUs and central government offices may remain open, but employee turnout is expected to be low.

Schools and Colleges: No Holiday, But Low Attendance Likely

Despite the Bharat Bandh, schools and colleges in Bengaluru remain open. The Karnataka government has not declared an official holiday. However, attendance may be affected due to transport uncertainty and parental concerns over safety.

Private school associations, including the Registered Unaided Private Schools' Management Association, have stated that classes will be held as usual, offering only symbolic support to the bandh.

Essential Services

Emergency services like hospitals, ambulance networks, fire stations, and police stations are fully functional. Citizens can access urgent services without disruption.

Delivery services (Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, Flipkart) may face slight delays in high-traffic or protest-prone zones.

Why Bengaluru Is Part of Bharat Bandh Today

The bandh, backed by 10 major trade unions, is a response to central government policies that unions say undermine worker rights. Their key demands include:

Rollback of the four new labour codes

Reinstating the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)

Opposing FDI in insurance

Halting privatisation of PSUs and banks

The unions claim the government has avoided holding the national labour conference for over a decade, leading to policy decisions that allegedly favour corporates over workers.
