Bengaluru's Street Food Scene Under Scanner: BBMP To Conduct Survey Of Out-of-State Vendors
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to conduct a survey of out-of-state street food vendors to address concerns raised by the state Health Department regarding the use of harmful substances in their food. Recently, the Health Department issued a notification prohibiting the use of artificial colors in foods such as kebabs (vegetarian, chicken, fish), cotton candy, gobi manchurian, and others.
In an effort to enforce these regulations, the BBMP is implementing stricter measures, particularly targeting inter-state street vendors. The BBMP Health Department plans to take action against vendors who use adulterated ingredients in popular items like panipuri, kebabs, gobi manchurian, and shawarma.

The survey of out-of-state street food vendors is scheduled to commence in the second week of July. Vendors without valid identity cards from outside the state will not be permitted to operate. Additionally, the BBMP aims to unify vendors within the state under a single identification system, facilitating issuance to those who currently lack one.
These initiatives are intended to regulate out-of-state vendors while supporting local vendors, driven by feedback from the vendors' federation and aimed at improving food safety standards across Bengaluru.
