Bengaluru's 'Pedal to Metro' Campaign Encourages Bicycle Usage For Reaching Namma Metro Stations
Bengaluru's metro system is constantly innovating to provide a seamless and eco-friendly travel experience for its passengers. Currently, the 'Pedal to Metro' campaign is being organised to encourage bicycle usage for reaching metro stations in the city.
Spearheaded by the Council for Active Mobility (CFAM), in collaboration with the World Resources Institute (WRI) and Bengaluru Political Action Committee (B-PAC), the campaign kicked off at the Yelachenahalli Metro Station. To facilitate easy access to bicycles, 200 bicycle stands have been installed across nine metro stations in the city. Additionally, 11 bicycle stands have been placed at BMTC and metro transit centers, serving as visible reminders of the available bicycle parking facilities.

The campaign has garnered enthusiastic support from residents, particularly in South Bengaluru. Participants actively engaged in cycling from their homes to the Yelachenahalli Metro Station, covering an approximate 5 km radius. They also utilized the AltMo app to track their rides, contributing valuable data for route planning and integration into the Sustainable Mobility Network (SMN) map. This information will help ensure safe and convenient cycling routes for both initial and final metro connectivity.
Highlighting the benefits of cycling as an affordable, healthy, and environmentally friendly mode of transport, Bengaluru's Bicycle Mayor and CFA Chief, Satya Shankaran, emphasized the campaign's focus on identifying safe routes to metro stations. The initiative aims to encourage people to embrace cycling as a viable alternative to conventional modes of transportation, especially for longer distances where public service connectivity may be limited.
