Bengaluru's New 287-Km Circular Rail Network To Cost Rs 2,300 Crore, Connects Outskirts To City
South Western Railway (SWR) has unveiled a groundbreaking plan to build a 287-kilometer Bengaluru Circular Rail Network in the outskirts of the city. The ambitious project aims to enhance local train services, reduce pressure on existing rail systems, and seamlessly integrate with the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) and Namma Metro.
According to Union Minister of State V Somanna, the Bengaluru circular railway network will cost Rs 2,300 crore, positioning it as a transformative project for public transportation in the tech capital. Officials will soon prepare and submit a detailed project report (DPR) to the ministry.

What is the Bengaluru Circular Rail Network?
The proposed railway network aims to connect small towns around Bengaluru, enhancing connectivity and easing daily commutes for those traveling from the outskirts to the city for work. The project is also designed to alleviate traffic congestion in Bengaluru.
The first phase of the Bengaluru circular railway network has reportedly received approval. Spanning 287 km, this extensive network will be one of the largest in India, linking areas such as Nidvanda, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Malur, Heelalige, and Solur.
The circular rail network will complement the ongoing Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, which connects the outskirts of the state capital to the city and is expected to be completed by December 2027.
In June last year, the Karnataka government directed the Rail Infrastructure Development Company of Karnataka (K-RIDE) to submit a revised plan for the project. The suburban rail project will extend to Mysuru, Gauribidanur-Hindupur, and Kolar areas.
