Bengaluru's New 10-Km Expressway: Banashankari to NICE Road to Ease Traffic Woes
Good news awaits Bengaluru commuters as efforts are underway to reduce traffic congestion on one of the city's busiest stretches. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has proposed a 10-km expressway connecting Banashankari to NICE Road, aimed at easing gridlock along this corridor.

According to reports by HT, the project gained urgency following a directive from Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Shivakumar said that the serious traffic issues created by the ongoing Metro construction on Kanakapura Road, calling for an alternative route to ease the difficulties faced by commuters.
In a letter addressed to BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath, Shivakumar proposed using the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board's (BWSSB) pipeline road for the expressway. He noted, "Kanakapura Road is a vital connection to Bengaluru city, but increasing traffic and the ongoing Metro work have led to considerable challenges. Given that grade separators are not a viable option here, an alternative solution is crucial."
The expressway is projected to cost ₹100 crore per kilometer, with the entire project estimated at ₹1,200 crore. BBMP officials have confirmed that procurement processes will soon commence for the detailed project report (DPR), with senior engineers highlighting the urgent necessity of this infrastructure project.
This expressway project is one of 17 flyover initiatives proposed by the BBMP to address Bengaluru's chronic traffic congestion, with Deputy CM Shivakumar actively overseeing its progress. The proposed route is expected to provide much-needed relief to commuters, ensuring smoother travel across the city.
